The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Terry O'Connell can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolences

Condolence From: Anne and John Porter
Condolence: Dear Joan. We were so very saddened to hear from Dolena of Terry's sudden death. I remember the day that Terry took our 'Red Ladies' for a cruise on one of our events. He was such a good sport - and what a fun day it was!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Hugh and Jen at this very difficult and sad time. Anne

Condolence: Dear Joan,
I was deeply surprised and saddened when I saw Terry's obituary. Terry was always warm and cheerful and always smiling with a little twinkle in his eye - he lifted everyone's spirit. I have very fond memories of racing with him as part of Brazen's crew and of the post race festivities and good cheer with shared with everyone on the RCYC porch. He was a wonderful man and I'm so glad I knew him! My deepest sympathies to you, Jen and Hugh. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Condolence: Joan: There is little that we can say that has not already been said. Terry always had a smile, and enjoyed life. We will miss that at the curling club. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.

Condolence: Joan and family, I am so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. A good, funny and clever man who will be missed and went far too soon. It will not be the same on the South Island without his greetings and comments to fellow SI members. You are in my thoughts, Joan, in this difficult and sad time.

Condolence From: Donnell Hughes
Condolence: Sincere condolences to Joan on the loss of her husband and to Hugh and Jen on the loss of their father from an old high school friend, who spent a lot of time with Terry, usually at the Belford home, which we looked upon as our “teen headquarters”. Terry was a grand fellow and is in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

Condolence From: Sue & Ned Macaulay
Condolence: Dear Joan,
Ned & I send our deep sympathy to you & your family Joan on the sudden loss of Terry.
Terry was a fine man. We will so miss his presentation prowess at the RCYC Friday night races. The South Island will be sadly quiet this summer without the O'Connells holding forth at your picnic table on weekend evenings. However we look forward to seeing you Joan very soon & hope that might be at the RCYC. Lots of love to you Joan & to your family. You will be in our thoughts.

Condolence: Dear Joan and family.
Our sincere condolences. Terry will be fondly remembered as a great friend and fellow sailor.
We always looked forward to the cruise/race to Youngstown. We raced across the lake, filling out the cruise entry and always wondering who would get the honor of receiving The Beaver Shield at the CSS spring dinner. He knew how to add a personal touch as he recognized each yachts accomplishment at the wine and cheese party.
Always supportive, caring and enthusiastic, he ,along with Joan , always offered a safe port of welcome to all.

Condolence: Dear Joan, Jen & Hugh,
My brother Peter called from Miramichi N.B. with the sad news of Terry's sudden passing. My heart goes out to the O'Connell family. You are in my thoughts. The last time I saw Terry was at Uncle Jerry's wake & before that at Betty & Jerry's anniversary celebration. Terry was attentive, friendly and, he had family tales to relate, in a humourous way, that I had not heard. We talked of life in Collingwood, golf, sailing & winters down south.
Terry was our suave, handsome, outgoing cousin. I remember his great smile and laugh. He was a people person and each conversation with him was a pleasure. Joan,I remember your wedding 47 years ago & together you have created so many precious memories. What a wonderful, handsome couple.
Growing up, we loved to hear Aunt Evan's stories about Terry, eg. his Britannia Yacht club sailings or his job on tour boat excursions on the Rideau Canal. People were attracted to Terry because he had a special quality of making others feel that what they were saying & doing was of interest. One summer, mom & dad rented a cottage outside of Ottawa. I cut my foot on glass at a nearby beach & Terry carried me all the way back to the cottage. How caring. Mom & dad always talked fondly of Terry.
This weekend we will attend my grandson Nathan's First Communion. During the mass, I will be thinking of Terry and family and I will keep you in my thoughts and prays during this sad time. Love to all.
