Obituary for Kathyrn Jane Benum
Kathryn Jane Benum born Sept. 29, 1944 passed away peacefully around noon on Tuesday April 3, 2018 while at Sunset Manor long term care facility. She was attended by her devoted husband of 50 years Frank and her two sons Peter and James. "Chatty Kathy" lived a full and bountiful life to the age of 73. Grammy will be forever missed by her son Peter with his wife Kathleen and their children Jasmine, Phoebe, and Christian, as well as her son James with his wife Melissa, son Andrew and daughter Emily.Kathy graduated from Ryerson and Teachers College specializing in Home Economics. She taught in North York, Agincourt and Aurora. She interrupted her career to be a stay at home mum during which she graduated from York University with a BA. She enjoyed spending her summers at the cottage on Kahshe Lake in Muskoka and winters skiing at Beaver Valley Ski Club. Her retirement years in Collingwood included Probus, Curling, Cinema Club, Bridge, Euchre, Biking, Hiking, Book Club, Snowshoeing, Skiing. Travel to Bermuda, England, Ireland, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Cruises, Florida and Caribbean Islands. Kathy's cremation has taken place and a family ceremony will happen at a later date followed by a celebration of life. We are grateful for the support we received from the Alzheimer's Society, VON, LHIN, CGMH in our battle with Dementia. A special thanks goes out to everyone at Sunset Manor who provided genuine love and care to Kathy during her short time there.
