Lyn Douglas “Doug” Wilson died peacefully in Campbell House of Hospice Georgian Triangle on Wednesday, October 24 in Collingwood, Ontario at the age of 74.
Doug is survived by his wife, Marion Alice Elisabeth "Beth" Wilson; children, James Drysdale Wilson and Tobi Lyn Wilson; and sister, Heather.
Doug was born on December 14, 1943 in Hamilton, Ontario to Jim and Willa Wilson. He graduated from McMaster University in 1966 with a degree in Engineering. Doug accepted the Athlone Fellowship to study at the University of Birmingham, where he completed a Master's Degree in Operations Research (1968). He received a Masters of Business Administration degree from York University in 1975. He married Beth, in 1971, having met her on a holiday trip to the Atlantic Provinces. Doug was a gallant knight who came to the Beth's aid when she had injured her ankle while hiking.
Doug spent much of his career working at Ontario Hydro, starting as an engineer in the research center and later as an executive in strategic planning. Upon retiring, he embarked on a 2nd career as a home inspector in his beloved Muskoka (2000-2010) and then in Collingwood (2010-2018).
As an avid skier (cross-country and alpine), sailor, and hiker, the Muskoka Lakes and Georgian Bay were natural places to spend his (semi) retirement. He also was an active member and administrator in his local PROBUS clubs as well as other community groups.
Doug had a wonderful and dry sense of humor. He loved games and was famous for quietly winning most of the time. He took people seriously and was always willing to lend a hand and his handy expertise to any challenge. He served as a role model for many, as a husband, a father, a friend and a person.
A small celebration of life is scheduled for November 2nd from 1-4 pm with a time for remembrances at 1:30 p.m. at Fawcett Funeral Home - Collingwood Chapel. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doug’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice Georgian Triangle, Campbell House at hospicegeorgiantriangle.com or 705-444-2555.
