Condolence: Dear Joan, Lisa, Pam & Tracy,

A light has gone out and a new day begins. I reckon Herb won the big lotto of life, ... a healthy, long & happy life
with rich family connections, an extraordinarily long marriage,
and a quick ticket out. Who could ask for anything more?

I was thinking about you today Joan. Working in Renners
about 1955, when Herb was 33 or so, you the same, and me a young 13. I remember you standing at the front counter with something and thinking 'what a beautiful woman'. There was a presence, composure in the way you stood, and looked at someone. It slightly intrigued my
juvenile sensibilities, of just 'who' you were, though I knew
who you were of course.

Another memory, Bob pulling up right in front of the store in a bus zone, parking his red convertible Oldsmobile to which was hitched a cedar strip boat with a green, rounded
25 hp. Johnson outboard & a pair of water skies in the front.
He ran in asked if i wanted to to skiing, I looked at Dad & the clock, each of whom said Yes!. And off we go, down
north on James St. me in the back of the ski boat behind the wheel on the say to the Bay, and the cottage beyond.

And it is possible, that Herb was there or came later in his
Grumman Goose, landed & taxied up to the shore. Let the fun begin. Such happy memories. Man, you guys knew how to live!

Sorrry I won't see you in Collingwood. I just came back from Ontario and my daughter from Edmonton is expected here November 17.

I am so very saddened to hear of Uncle Herb's passing. I know how hard this is for all of you. You have wonderful memories of his smiling face to help you heal. I will always remember him with great fondness. I share in your sorrow.
