Condolences

Condolence From: John Kirkpatrick
Condolence: I'll always remember the complimenting speech he gave about me and my squash game in the John Guest Hall when I received my Colours Probably far more kudos than I deserved. An honourable and well respected gentleman

Condolence From: Joyful Memories, Unanswered Questions
Condolence: For the past number of months, a certain question burned with me. I knew that only one person could answer this; my former Grade 8 teacher - "Mr. Stuart". But it seemed silly to call fifty years after the fact, so I postponed.

Today, i decided to make this call, and - with some sadness - learned of Ian's passing.

I want to pass along condolences, especially to my classmate, Dave. I would always laugh when you occasionally slipped up and called the teacher "Dad."

Despite the immediate sense of sadness, I cannot help but feel some sense of Joy from what I see here; this photograph is unbelievable. The warm, knowing smirk seems frozen in time, unchanged from a half century ago.

The full attendance at the reunion we held a number of years back, testifies to the Rev's impact on so many of us.

The best of wishes,
Peter Buddell

Condolence From: John Verdon
Condolence: I was privileged to have THE Rev as part of my life at Appleby and beyond. No one could rock a Carol Service or a Christmas Eve service (or my wedding service) at the John Bell Chapel like THE Rev. Great memories of a great man. Thoughts and prayers from my family to yours Jamie. So sorry for your loss.

Condolence: I remember playing squash against "The Kink" in grade 8...Ian had a broken leg and I was on crutches with an achilles tear but we loved squash so much we dealt with a little discomfort.
We lost one of The Great Ones... Great Reverend, great person, great Dad....

Condolence: My condolences to the Stuart family. Living now in Minnesota, it was certainly a long time ago that I had Rev Stuart as my 8th grade teacher. I left Appleby after 8th grade and moved south, but seeing the notice he had died really saddened me, as he always treated me with the utmost respect and kindness. His spirit will be missed.

Condolence: “Learn to roll with the Rev” was a phrase George Mann coined in 5th grade. We recognized at a young age that the Rev meant business. Your dad was a great man and a great teacher! Condolences to you and your family.

Condolence: Hi Jamie. I saw your post today and had to stop for a moment and pause. You, and your family, saved my life; for which I shall always remain grateful. You were so very generous to me with you, and yours. The Rev had a very profound affect on my life; he and your brother baptized me on Christmas Eve in the school chapel! Over the years I have recalled with great laughter and sincere thankfulness the stories and the love you all shared with me. My sincerest condolences for you and your entire family. I will be out of the country and unable to join in a toast to your Dad at the Legion this Friday - I will drink a toast to a Great Man from Mexico with my two beautiful children. Strength and love. And all my best.

Condolence: Sorry to hear the news Stuey. Condolences to you and your family. Your dad was a big part of all of our lives at Appleby. He even supported my side of a seal hunt class debate back in grade 7 when I was all alone (hard to do but on the correct side!) Thanks for everything Rev!!
