Obituary for Ella Pynn

Ella Pynn
Pynn, Ella Rae (nee Grandy) passed peacefully at Sunset Manor, Collingwood, Ontario on 11th June 2017, age 94.
Predeceased by her parents Edward Grandy and Adelaide (Inkpen), her loving husband of 58 years Calvin R. Pynn (Sr), sister Jessie and husband Fred Fox, brother Owen and wife Kizzie, brother Cecil and wife Gertrude, and special-sister/partner-in-fun Olive (aka ‘Babe’) and husband Charles Moores.
Left to celebrate her life are her son Calvin (Marlene), Dubai/Collingwood, her grandchildren Richard Pynn (Ashley), Sylvan Lake, AB and Jeremy Pynn (Amber), Chilliwack, BC, her great-grandchildren Kaelyn, Billy, Aiden, Wyatt and Paisley-Ella, caring brother-in-law Desmond (Violet), and many nieces and nephews - all of whom she loved so dearly.
Ella Rae’s was a life, and era, well-lived and well-loved. Born 18th September 1922 in the town of Garnish, Burin Peninsula, Newfoundland, Ella Rae graduated from Teacher’s College in St-John’s in the early ‘40’s. After serving obligatory graduate postings as ‘the one-room school house teacher’ in isolated outports, she married Calvin upon his return from WW2 service. She was a librarian at the St-John’s Gosling Memorial Library in the late 40’s to mid-50’s and the Grade 5 teacher at the Salvation Army Elementary school in Mundy Pond throughout the 60’s. After moving to Toronto in 1970, Ella Rae served in the children’s section of the North York Public Library until her retirement in 1987 to Oliphant and later Collingwood Ontario. Aside from her books, Ella Rae enjoyed RV’ing with Calvin into retirement, making many friends on their annual Florida migrations and regular ‘family & friends tours’ to the east coast.
The family are forever grateful to the staff of ‘South Simcoe’ at Collingwood’s Sunset Manor and of Right-at-Home services for their compassion and professional TLC given ‘Ella’ in her twilight years.
A memorial & dedication will be held in Newfoundland at some future date. In her memory, the family asks that you say a prayer, take a moment to help someone in need, and donate to the Salvation Army next Christmas.
